Mohnike Adobe Emergency Porch Stabilization

Location:

Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve

IS Architecture is currently preparing architectural plans for the emergency stabilization of the Mohnike Adobe Porch for the City of San Diego Capital Improvements. The site is located in the eastern end of the Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve. The 2,512-square-foot, single story adobe structure is located within the 12-acre Rancho Peñasquitos Equestrian Center located at 12115 Black Mountain Road in the Ranch Peñasquitos Community Planning Area in the City and County of San Diego.

Recent inspections of the Mohnike Adobe indicate that the north porch and roof of the historic Mohnike Adobe are again in imminent danger of collapse. The stucco exterior has pulled away from the rotted porch framing. The floor of the porch is collapsing due to the rotted framing. The porch was previously shored up from the beam and supports that were installed in 2009. The roof of the porch is supported on 4x4s that used to rest on the framing of the porch. The framing of the porch has rotted away so at least two of the roof support posts are in imminent danger of collapsing. The project will include design and installation of emergency shoring to support the porch roof and flooding until long term stabilization/rehabilitation can be implemented.

Emergency measures are assured to be in place for a minimum of 4 or 5 years while plans for the long-term stabilization are completed and can be implemented.
