IS Architecture is an award-winning firm in San Diego that specializes in Custom Residential Architecture and Historic Preservation. We are a small office of six seeking a highly motivated Historic Preservation Program Manager to join our team.
A qualified candidate will…
- – Hold a Masters of Historic Preservation or equivalent
- – Be qualified under the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards (36 CFR Part 61) for architectural history (preferred), history, and/or historic architecture.
- – Have outstanding historical research, analytical, and technical writing skills
- – Have demonstrated comprehension and experience applying the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties to a wide variety of resources and project types
- – Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- – Have demonstrated experience with the CEQA process and technical documents
- – Be able to read architectural plans, elevations, sections, and details
- – Have excellent oral and written skills
- – Be able to manage time efficiently while working on multiple tasks on multiple projects
- – Be able to communicate clearly and effectively with staff, clients, and consultants
- – Be able to work independently and collaborate with a team of people
- – Be a critical thinker
- – Be able to travel overnight occasionally (up to 20%)
- – Be able to provide their own reliable transportation
Preference will be given to applicants with…
- – Additional studies/certification in Historic Preservation
- – Experience with the Section 106 process and technical documents
- – Experience with Caltrans built environment documentation
- – One or more successful San Diego local or county designations and/or National Register designations
- – Proficiency with Adobe InDesign

This position’s duties include…
Technical Preservation Duties
- – Write historic preservation technical reports for the built environment (including HABS documentation, Historic Structure Reports, nomination reports (for local, state, and national registers), built resource condition assessment reports, historic preservation treatment plans, etc.)
- – Conduct historical research online and in local archives/repositories
- – Field survey and recordation of built resources
- – Determination of resource eligibility including significance/integrity/condition assessment of built resources
- – Project management
Management Duties
- – Managing the historic preservation department
- Assigning projects
- Tracking project budgets and timelines
- Reviewing all reports prior to passing to Principal
- – Establishing and implementing standard procedures for the historic preservation department
- – Consult with other departments regarding historic preservation philosophy and approach
Business Development and Marketing Duties
- – New client interviews and client management
- – Proposal writing and RFP responses
- – Represent the firm at networking, marketing, and professional development events
- – The candidate may also be required to give lectures, seminars, or workshops on preservation topics
