City of San Diego Historic Site No. 1080, Samuel and Lulu Maxwell House
The overall articulation of this Spanish Colonial Revival style house and garage are exemplary. It is the first known residence constructed by ship draftsman and architect, Robert O. Maxwell. Although modifications to the east (rear) elevation exist, the overall condition of the house and garage, viewshed, design articulation, and the property’s ability to convey its significance under the seven aspects of integrity–location, design, setting, materials, workmanship, feeling and association, warrants designation under HRB Criterion C—Architecture as an exemplary example of the Spanish Colonial Revival style.
